Frequently Asked Questions
1. When am I eligible for Medicare?
The Initial Enrollment Period begins 3 months before you turn 65 and ends 3 months after. During the Annual Enrollment period, which is October 15 to December 7, you can make changes to your coverage.
2. Am I automatically enrolled in Medicare Part C?
No, when signing up through the government website, you are enrolled only into Parts A and B. You need to enrol with a private insurance company for Parts C and D, although it may be free. We do this whole process for you over the phone in a matter of minutes.
3. What is the cost for a Medicare Advantage plan?
The cost of your Medicare Advantage plan can vary, depending on your Medicaid eligibility and residence. Our staff will assist in navigating your health insurance benefits to explain what services are covered, deductibles, premiums and out-of-pocket expenses. If you need it, we also help with the supplemental health insurance options.
4. What is the difference between a Medicare Advantage and a Medicare Supplement plan?
Medicare Advantage, Part C, is a replacement for Original Medicare, offered through private insurance companies and providing additional benefits without losing existing ones. Medicare Supplement, or Medigap, plans work alongside your Original Medicare, Parts A and B, to cover expenses, such as out-of-pocket copays and deductibles.
5. Which counties do you serve?
The counties we currently serve are: the Bronx, Nassau, Orange, Queens, Rockland, Suffolk, Sullivan, Westchester, and New York City. You can call or email our specialists to verify your eligibility.
6. Do I need to have Medicaid to qualify for a Medicare Advantage plan?
No, you do not need Medicaid to qualify for a Medicare Advantage plan. You can sign up for a low monthly premium and receive cost-saving benefits. If you receive Medicaid assistance, you will most likely not pay a monthly premium and may receive additional monthly benefits on your OTC Plus card.
